Strengthening of Forest Governance
Governance is the effectiveness, quality and aproach of state intervention, with direct participation of the community, validating a great deal of its legitimacy. Natural resources governance means, for Aldea Global, the law and administrative framework that determines state intervention and its interaction with users of natural resources.
One of the nationwide highlighted projects is the Posicionamiento de la Gobernanza Forestal en Colombia (Positioning of forest governance in Colombia), lead by the Carder and developed with support from 11 Autonomous regional corporations from the departments of Risaralda, Quind铆o, Tolima, Norte de Santander, Nari帽o, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Choco, Antioquia and Caldas. Aldea Global participates in this process as partner of the project, supporting various initiatives:
The main purpose of this Project was to establish public-private partnerships for the improvement of forest governance in 11 departments of Colombia, represented by the respective environmental authorities. Aldea Global鈥檚 involvement took place between Nov. 2011 鈥 Sep. 2012 and July 2007 鈥 January 2008.
One of the main results of the Project is the signing of agreements for legal logging between the departments of聽 Caldas, Choc贸, Cauca, Norte de Santander and Quind铆o, through the establishment of technical secretariates that follow up on the agreements.
The project 鈥淧ositioning of forest governance in Colombia鈥 DCI 鈥 ENV /2010/221鈥025 (Posicionamiento de la Gobernanza Forestal en Colombia) 聽focuses on reducing illegal logging (which for Colombia is over 40% according to the World Bank). A key part of the project is the approach of social participation which makes youth groups, communities and representatives from institutions an active part in project implementation.
The strategy designed by Aldea Global includes tools for the empowerment of communities and to address other actors engaged in illegal logging, and to develop economic alternatives through agroforestry projects that help reduce illegality.
The purpose of this Project was to design a system of forest extension for Colombia. Aldea Global presented the result at a national event in 2004: 聽鈥淏osques Futuro Colombia鈥 This project was supported by GTZ in 2004.
Aldea Global prepared the design and strategy for a forest extension service for the coffee growing eco-region of Colombia, with support and coordination of Proyecto Bosques FLEGT Colombia, led by the environmental authority of Risaralda Department, Carder, 2006 鈥 2008.
